Client Controller (CPA) | Remote

Controller — CPA | Fully Remote

$85,000–$115,000 salary + Bonus | Full-Time | Remote

Maybe you like accounting. You like clients. You like solving problems and helping business owners understand their numbers.

You just don't want another year of 60-hour weeks, endless tax returns, and April controlling your life.

Come do something different with your CPA license.

Profit Matters is a growing CPA firm that works with small and mid-sized businesses across the country. We're looking for an experienced Controller who can lead client relationships, review financials, coach our accounting team, and help business owners make smarter decisions.

And no, we don't expect you to be a CFO, tax partner, bookkeeper, HR director, and miracle worker all at the same time.

What You'll Do

You'll manage a portfolio of business clients and work alongside our senior accountants and bookkeepers to make sure their accounting is accurate, timely, and useful.

Your typical week will include:

  • Reviewing monthly financial statements
  • Making/reviewing journal entries and accounting adjustments
  • Meeting with clients to review financial results
  • Helping business owners understand what's happening in their business
  • Reviewing budgets, cash flow forecasts, and KPIs
  • Managing and coaching senior accountants and bookkeepers
  • Reviewing your team's work for accuracy and completeness
  • Helping solve accounting problems when something doesn't look right
  • Keeping clients happy, informed, and on track
  • Improving processes as we continue to grow

Most importantly, you'll get to use your accounting knowledge to actually help business owners — not just report what happened six months ago.

You'll Probably Love This Job If You...

  • Are a CPA who wants to move away from primarily tax work
  • Actually enjoy talking to clients
  • Can look at a P&L or balance sheet and quickly spot what doesn't make sense
  • Love clean books and accurate financial statements
  • Can confidently review someone else's accounting work
  • Enjoy teaching and developing other accountants
  • Are organized without needing someone constantly checking on you
  • Can manage several clients and priorities at once
  • Like small businesses and entrepreneurs
  • Want to work with a growing, modern CPA firm

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Active CPA license
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Strong financial statement and general ledger knowledge
  • Experience reviewing or supervising accounting work
  • QuickBooks experience
  • Excellent client communication skills
  • Public accounting experience is a big plus

Coming from tax? Even better.

If you've spent years in public accounting and are thinking, I love accounting, but I cannot do another tax season like this, we should probably talk.

Why Profit Matters?

We're building the kind of accounting firm we actually want to work for.

You'll get:

  • 100% remote work
  • A flexible, reasonable daytime schedule
  • $85,000–$115,000 salary
  • Performance bonus opportunities
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off
  • Paid CPE and CPA licensing costs
  • Paid training and professional development
  • A fun, growing team
  • Clients you can actually build relationships with
  • The opportunity to help entrepreneurs grow healthier, more profitable businesses

And perhaps most importantly...

No traditional tax-season lifestyle.

We work hard. We care deeply about our clients. We expect great work.

But we also believe really talented accountants shouldn't have to sacrifice their entire life for four months every year.

If you're an experienced CPA or accounting professional who's ready to use your skills differently, we'd love to meet you.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
  • Retirement plan
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Vision insurance

License/Certification:

  • CPA (Preferred)
