Communications Manager, Snapchat

About the position

Snap Inc. is a technology company focused on improving communication through its camera-centric products. The Communications Team is responsible for conveying Snap’s mission, vision, and values to various audiences, including users, creators, developers, partners, investors, policymakers, and employees. The team highlights the power of Snapchat, SPECS, and Lens Studio as platforms for communication, storytelling, and augmented reality innovation, ensuring accurate and compelling narratives about the company, its people, and its products. This role is for a Communications Manager to join the team in Los Angeles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead proactive communications and storytelling for Snapchat, including in-app products, features, monetization programs, platform tools, and initiatives supporting creator growth.
  • Translate complex product updates, platform changes, and monetization programs into clear, compelling messaging for media, creators, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead external agency partner teams to support media strategy, storytelling, and execution.
  • Support communications across content and partnerships (e.g., sports, music), identifying opportunities to tell stories about how creators and partners use Snapchat.
  • Develop communications strategies for major cultural and industry moments, including entertainment and sports events, creator activations, partnerships, and Snap-led initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with reporters across various beats (creator economy, technology, consumer, business, entertainment, sports, culture) and proactively pitch stories.
  • Draft communications materials such as Newsroom posts, messaging documents, FAQs, reactive talking points, briefing materials, and media pitches.
  • Organize press briefings, product demonstrations, and media opportunities for creators and partners, and prepare spokespeople for interviews and speaking engagements.
  • Identify emerging trends in the creator economy, entertainment, sports, social platforms, and digital culture to inform proactive communications and strengthen Snapchat’s cultural relevance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Product, Creator Partnerships, Content, Marketing, Legal, Policy) to develop coordinated communications strategies.
  • Work with the Communications team to measure impact, track coverage and sentiment, and refine strategies based on performance and insights.

Requirements

  • Strong relationships with reporters across the creator economy, technology, consumer, business, entertainment, sports, and culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop proactive stories and manage complex platform narratives.
  • Strong understanding of the creator and digital content ecosystem, including evolving creator business models, monetization, platform dynamics, and cultural trends.
  • Demonstrated experience developing communications strategies for consumer technology products, platforms, or features.
  • Ability to make complicated product and business concepts accessible to broad audiences.
  • Ability to move fluidly between proactive storytelling, product launches, partnerships, and reactive communications in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong editorial judgment, and fastidious attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently identify compelling stories and translate broader business, product, and cultural trends into earned-media opportunities.
  • Strong cross-functional relationship-building skills, including experience working with Product, Partnerships, Marketing, Legal, Policy, and senior leadership.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously and operate effectively amid evolving priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Experience partnering with global communications teams on coordinated campaigns and announcements.
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in communications, public relations, product communications, or a related field, preferably within consumer technology, social platforms, the creator economy, media, or entertainment.
