Freelance Copy Editor B2B Marketing Agency

Column Five is a B2B marketing agency that specializes in brand and content marketing for SaaS companies.

We're hiring a freelance copy editor to work with us on project-based marketing copy, typically 5- 40 hours per project. Our editors work directly with C5's internal team and sometimes work directly with our clients.

JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR COPY EDITORS

  • 4+ years of professional copy editing experience in B2B tech, SaaS, or developer-focused content with some writing experience
  • Proficiency in enforcing brand style guides for consistency across all content
  • Portfolio demonstrating ability to edit and refine complex technical content into clear, compelling copy
  • Strong research abilities and thorough fact-checking skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to spot minute errors and inconsistencies
  • Experience editing both short-form and long-form content across various marketing materials
  • Able to self-manage your projects and thrive in an autonomous work environment
  • Comfort working in Google Docs (tracking changes) and making edits directly in Figma or CRM
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, as this role will often interface directly with the client team
  • Willing and able to work in contiguous US time zones for meetings and syncs

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Copy edit short- and long-form content for client website, collateral, and marketing campaigns
  • Polish and refine existing copy to translate complex tech concepts into compelling, motivating content
  • Work with the creative team through regular copy/design critiques and feedback sessions
  • Edit and repurpose messaging for corporate marketing deliverables, ensuring brand guideline compliance
  • Edit content for executive, legal, and marketing audiences with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and credibility
  • Preserve technical nuance while improving readability and logical flow for target audiences
  • Manage editing projects while maintaining precision and attention to detail in fast-moving environments with busy team members
  • Stay organized and track comments/feedback across stakeholders
  • Serve as the point of contact for copy deliverables
  • Attend meetings for project kick-offs, feedback gathering, and style guide updates
  • Communicate project updates and collaborate via Slack and PM or CRM tools

COMPENSATION
Compensation is dependent upon experience. The hourly breakdown on a flat-rate project will vary project to project within a range $50-$85/hour

LOCATION
We are a distributed- or remote-first company. We are open to working with you if you are committed to being available for weekly meetings during projects with us that are within USA timezones.

WRITING SAMPLES

For you application, please include examples of your work that demonstrate your ability to edit complex technical content into clear, compelling copy. Show before/after examples, and include both short-form and long-form content samples. A copy editing test will be conducted as part of the application process.
