Part-Time Virtual ELA Tutor (K–8) — Weekday Evenings

Part-Time Virtual ELA Tutor (K–8) — Weekday Evenings 4:00–8:00pm ET

Schedule requirement: This role needs at least 6 hours per week of recurring sessions between 4:00 and 8:00pm Eastern Time, Monday through Thursday, with at least 2 of those evenings running until 8:00pm ET. That is 3:00–7:00pm Central, 2:00–6:00pm Mountain, or 1:00–5:00pm Pacific. We interview applicants who can commit to this minimum first. More hours are welcome. Daytime hours are available, however our immediate need is the evenings.

Connected Tutors is a small, specialized virtual tutoring practice serving K–12 students nationwide. We are hiring two contract ELA tutors to teach reading and writing in the after-school and evening hours, when our families need us most.

About the Role

You will teach the same students every week in one-on-one and small-group sessions on Google Meet. Sessions are 30 minutes (45 for small groups). You will deliver structured, evidence-based reading and writing instruction and adapt to each student's attention, confidence, and emotional state.

Our students include learners with ADHD, dyslexia, executive function challenges, anxiety, learning gaps, and school avoidance, as well as students working ahead.

You will work directly with our founder and lead educator to:

- Teach skill-based reading and writing from an assessment-informed plan
- Build regulation, confidence, and focus into every session
- Track progress and write brief session notes
- Make sessions relational, motivating, and effective

This is not a worksheet-only or scripted-curriculum role. Your judgment matters here.

What You'll Tutor

Our biggest need is elementary reading (K–5). Middle school reading and writing (6–8) is also welcome.

- Phonics, decoding, and fluency
- Reading comprehension
- Sentence and paragraph writing
- Structured literacy or Orton-Gillingham-informed instruction (strongly preferred)
- Support for reluctant, anxious, or dyslexic readers and writers

Who We're Looking For

- Available at least 6 hours per week between 4:00 and 8:00pm ET, Monday–Thursday, including at least 2 evenings until 8:00pm ET
- An active teaching certificate in any U.S. state (elementary, reading, ELA, or special education preferred)
- Classroom, intervention, literacy specialist, or special education experience
- Comfort teaching on Google Meet with warmth and clarity
- Reliability with the same weekly students all school year
- Bachelor's degree required. Reading endorsement, structured literacy / OG training, or a master's degree is a strong plus.

Schedule and Hours

- Part-time contract role, fully remote
- Minimum 6 hours per week in the 4:00–8:00pm ET window. Up to 12+ hours as students are matched.
- Recurring weekly sessions through the school year

Our Teaching Philosophy

At Connected Tutors, academic progress and emotional safety go together. Many of our students need to rebuild confidence before they can fully engage with reading and writing. We care about whether students leave a session feeling more capable than when they arrived.
